Parmigiani Fleurier’s new Tonda GT limited edition series expands the brand’s classic Tonda dress watch collection with a sporty, yet elegant, model designed for everyday wear.
For the launch, Parmigiani Fleurier has introduced two new models—Tonda GT and Tondagraph GT—both available on sporty rubber straps or full metal bracelets blending matte and polished finishes.
To bring a new design perspective to the Tonda family, which launched in 2011, the brand engaged independent designer Dino Modolo, marking the first time Parmigiani has collaborated with an outside designer. Modolo’s resume includes stints with Eterna, Bedat & Co., Gucci Group, and Vacheron Constantin over the past few decades.
“I have known Dino Modolo for many years, and I wanted our teams to interface with external designers to enrich our brainstorming and bring an outside point of view,” Davide Traxler, CEO of Parmigiani Fleurier, said in an email. “We decided that the teams would initially work separately, but we found the best results when we put them together. We believe the new Tonda GT collection brings Parmigiani Fleurier to new territory while at the same time retaining very clearly our identity.”
Taking inspiration from 2016’s award-winning Tonda Chronor chronograph, Modolo re-envisioned the 42mm case with updated lugs and an integrated bracelet, ergonomically designed for optimal comfort. The dials are finished with traditional “clou triangulaire” guilloché engraving, a motif echoed on the rubber straps.
The distinctive fluted bezel offers a nod to the brand’s flagship Toric model, which launched Michel Parmigiani’s namesake brand in 1999—connecting past to present while preserving Parmigiani’s golden ratio design ethos.
Featuring a big date aperture at 12 o’clock and small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock, the Tonda GT comes in steel (US$13,500 on rubber strap; US$14,500 on steel bracelet) with a black dial in a limited edition of 250 pieces. The Rose Gold Blue version with a blue dial on a blue rubber strap (US$24,900) or a full gold bracelet (US$49,500) is limited to 150 pieces.
The PF044 automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve powers both versions. Beautifully finished with Côtes de Genève stripes, this finely tuned engine can be admired through a sapphire crystal case back. A screw-down crown endows the watch with robust water resistance down to 100 meters.
The more complicated Tondagraph GT presents the rare combination of a chronograph and annual calendar with the finely finished PF043 automatic caliber, also showcased through a clear sapphire case back. The practical annual calendar function requires a date adjustment only once per year at the end of February.
The watch’s black dial is designed for heightened legibility with delta-shaped hands treated with a black luminescent coating, a small seconds sub-dial, two sub-dials for the chronograph function, and a big date aperture at 12 o’clock. To highlight the annual calendar function, the date and month are accented in bright orange.
The Tondagraph GT is limited to 200 numbered pieces in steel (US$18,500 on rubber strap; US$19,500 on steel bracelet).
“This is yet another step forward for Parmigiani Fleurier as it continues to evolve and innovate,” Traxler said in the news release. “The new Tonda GT line, with its more casual shape and attractive price point, reflects current market needs and is, at the same time, distinctively Parmigiani.”
