The 2022 Mazda CX-30 and 2022 Mini Clubman represent two of the most driver-focused compact SUVs. Here’s how they compare.
2022 Mazda CX-30
2022 Mazda CX-30 Starting Price: $22,500 (est.) | Price yours or View listings near youAbove Average: Upscale styling; premium interior; most power in class; sporty and enthusiastic handling; comprehensive driver assists; available 2.5 Turbo model.
Below Average: Infotainment system learning curve; snug rear seating; some desired features reserved for top trim level.
Consensus: The CX-30 bridges the gap between a sports car and an SUV. Its athletic driving manners and raised seating position provide the best of both worlds. A long list of options includes an available 2.5-liter turbo-inline-4 engine with cylinder deactivation on the premium trim level.
2022 Mini Clubman
2022 Mini Clubman Starting Price: $29,900 | Price yours or View listings near youAbove Average: As fun as a Cooper but with more space; unique Mini style; JCW model is powerful.
Below Average: Apple CarPlay isn’t standard equipment; blind-spot monitoring isn’t available, and it can still be pricey relative to the competition.
Consensus: The 2022 Mini Clubman is a premium, sporty subcompact with available AWD. It differentiates itself on style and fun-to-drive qualities as well as its notch-above-mainstream fit and finish.
CX-30 vs. Clubman: Enthusiasm Meets Practicality
Mazda CX-30
The Mazda CX-30 is a subcompact SUV that pushes the envelope in what we expect from such a vehicle. Smaller than the CX-5 compact SUV but larger than the discontinued subcompact CX-3, it offers style, an engaging character, and a wide array of standard technology and safety features.
The interior has a near-luxury vibe and feels larger and airier than the CX-30’s size would suggest. Still, some second-row passengers may feel slightly cramped. With its enthusiastic road manners and handling characteristics, this could be the best-driving subcompact SUV in the segment today.
The CX-30’s standard power comes from a 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G inline-4 that produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Those with a taste for more power can choose the 2.5-liter turbo inline-4 to get 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque with 87 octane or 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque with 93-octane fuel.
Pricing is not available yet for the 2022 CX-30, but we expect a slight increase, as is usual for the latest models of cars. Higher-end models can be had with a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-4, leather seating, Bose premium audio system, head-up display, navigation, and more.
Mini Clubman
The Mini Clubman captures the fun, sporty attitude of the Hardtop and extends its functionality with a 4-inch longer wheelbase and more cargo area. Yes, it looks something like a station wagon, but don’t let that scare you away. Think of it as a long-ish hatchback if you must.
Despite the lengthened shape, the Mini style is still strong with the Clubman, including special rear doors that open sideways instead of hinging upward like most–a nod to the style of pre-BMW-ownership-era Minis. Most of the exterior cues are shared with the Mini Hardtop 4-Door, although the Clubman’s profile is a bit more squared off at the rear, and the taillights are unique to the Clubman.
The 2022 Mini Clubman’s interior is likewise awash in Mini style, including a large round central display with aircraft-style switches arrayed below. The Clubman’s extra wheelbase means the rear seat is usable by adults, and the rear seats offer a 60/40 split-fold or an optional 40/20/40 configuration. You’ll find 17.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and 47.9 cubic feet with them folded flat.
The 2022 Mini Clubman is available in a few forms: Cooper S Clubman, Cooper S Clubman ALL4, and John Cooper Works Clubman ALL4. The Cooper S Clubman is the entry point to the range, while the John Cooper Works model is the sport-focused range-topper. All three variants are available in three trims: Classic, Signature, and Iconic.
New for the 2022 Clubman: An increase in the electronically limited top speed to 155 mph; all models now include lane-departure warning and a 12-month SiriusXM subscription; Classic trim models get an 8.8-inch media display screen, while Signature trim models get the 8.8-inch navigation display. Signature trim models also now get navigation, Apple CarPlay, Remote Services, and Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information.
Similarities

Mazda CX-30 Benefits

Mini Clubman Benefits
