Hyundai took the covers off of its 2022 Kona mid-February, showing off the crossover’s updated looks and a new sporty N Line trim.
For 2022, the Kona has been redesigned with new front end styling, including a new grille, daytime running lights, and new skid plate. Inside the cabin is a 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a host of safety features.
The base model Kona comes equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, which develops 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The Kona Electric sees a battery-electric powertrain that produces 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque, and offers a 415-km range from a 64-kWh battery.
The new Kona N-Line trims are decidedly more sporty, with a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 195 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Kona N-Line features other upgrades such as 18-inch wheels, dual exhaust tips, unique front and rear fascias, as well as N badges, metal pedals, and contrast seat stitching.
The full-fat performance Kona N is still forthcoming, as is the Elantra N, which will make for seven N models in the Hyundai lineup due to arrive before the end of 2022. Canadian pricing has yet to be announced.
