Investing can be rough. One moment you're buying a stock that's going to soar sky high and the next you're in the dumps wondering how it managed to stop soaring the moment you bought in.
Well, today we're going to look at 15 investments in your future that you can even enjoy while you're letting them appreciate in value. Cars are often considered a poor investment because of the time it takes them to appreciate and the possibility of losing that value should they be damaged.
The benefit of investing in cars is pretty huge if you're an automotive enthusiast though. Certain cars are going to appreciate just because of their age. You'll see a lot of cars on this list from the '90s. That market has dipped in recent years because the cars aren't old enough to be classics, and they're not new enough to be competitive with more recent models. That's all about to change. Let's dig into 15 assets that you can drive and enjoy while they're gaining in value.
15 Acura NSX
The Acura NSX is perhaps one of the purest sports cars ever made. Their styling is timeless, they're highly reliable and sincerely quick. They made it clear that speed didn't have to be totally impractical. It's always going to be a classic because it was the first of its kind too.
14 Lexus IS300
This IS300 is the one you want. Laser Red with a manual transmission. The 1JZ under the hood doesn't have any turbos but it really didn't need them. This thing easily outperforms a BMW M3 of the time too. It's far more reliable and nicer to sit in. These came stock with Alcantara inside. There's a ton to love.
13 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX
If only I could fit in one of these I'd own as many as I could. The styling of the Eclipse set a trend that we still see happening today. The GSX model also set itself apart by throwing turbocharged power to all four wheels. They're hard to find now but in ten years they'll only be harder to find.
12 Chevy Camaro SS
It's a bit silly how cheaply you can get a Camaro SS today. If you manage to buy a '98 or later car you'll end up with an all-aluminum Corvette motor under the hood too. The best thing about these is that lightly modifying one won't wreck its value either. You can safely drive it and maintain it and expect that in a few years it'll still be worth more than it is today.
11 Porsche 911
I'm not certain a good Porsche 911 will ever do anything but appreciate in value. Think of the latest GT3s. They immediately trade for more money than Porsche sells them for. The 911 is always going to be a winner though because it's the Porsche everyone wants. Keep it well-maintained and it'll only gain value.
10 Aston Martin V8 Vantage
I think Vantage prices are as low as they're going to get. The older versions were far more Ford involved and didn't have the same quality as this one. Additionally, this one looks stunning compared to most Astons that came before it. It won't be as valuable as the V12 in the future but it won't get any cheaper than it is now.
9 Nissan 300ZX
Japan really had its horsepower war about a decade before we did here it seems. Only they didn't own up to it. The 300ZX was a wild car. Twin turbos mated to the V6 under the hood produced at least 300 horsepower despite Nissan claiming otherwise. If you can find the topless version pictured above you'll do even better.
8 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4
Mitsubishi was not going to be outdone though, and they brought this thing to market to fight both the 300ZX and the Skyline. It also used a twin-turbo V6 but mated that power to all four wheels and was the height of tech at the time. It had four-wheel steering and one of the most futuristic interiors ever sold at the time.
7 Nissan Skyline GTR (R34)
I hear you complaining now that these aren't legal here. Don't worry, that's exactly why you buy it now. It's not long till we can ship these over and prices have already started to grow so you better get in now because if you wait it'll only be more insane.
6 Ferrari 360 Modena
Perhaps the most underrated Ferrari on the used car market today is the 360. These are one of the last truly beautiful cars to come from Modena, and they're available for less than $50k in some places. They're not as silly to maintain as the previous cars either. Again, I think prices will only go up.
5 Ford Taurus SHO
Ford knew they were building something interesting and fun when they released the SHO. I don't think they could've possibly known that they were building an icon though. To this day, the Taurus SHO is considered one of the best front-wheel-drive sedans in the history of the business.
4 Honda S2000
If Honda ever makes another version of this car, prices of this one will only skyrocket further, and right now they're super affordable. The combination of a high-revving motor and the timeless styling take this little car a long way. Add to it that they're very reliable and easy to care for and you can see why it's on this list.
3 Infiniti FX50
Most folks have never heard about this SUV. It's packing a big bad 400 horsepower V8 under the hood and is very hard to find. Nevertheless, pricing on them isn't wild despite the fact that the engine is from a Nissan racecar. I'd buy it and put it up for a few years personally.
2 Jaguar XKR Coupe
Yes, parts of this Jaguar will remind you of Ford because they're actually Ford parts but listen to me. Prices on the XKR are around 15k-20k for a well-kept example. Give that a decade, and they're going to be at least 30% or more improved. They look fantastic too.
1 Lexus GS400
The GS400 is what you get when you're ready to drive your investment and have very little worry. The engine in the GS400 is a 4.0 V8 that makes at least 300 horsepower. It's also delightfully well-appointed and the start of more modern Lexus styling.
