The upcoming 7th generation of the Hyundai Elantra will come with a new futuristic and modern design, in addition to a sportier version made by Hyundai's racing team.
Recently, spy shots taken by Car And Driver showed an L-Line prototype of the Elantra rolling around with heavy camo to disguise all the changes that the latest model will possess. This model, in particular, is expected to fill the gap that Hyundai needs to fill to compete with the Honda Civic Si and the Jetta GLI.
To make the vehicle a more driver-oriented option, it will feature quite a few chassis upgrades. Examples include a multi-link rear suspension instead of the twisted beam of the standard Elantra.
Additionally, the N-Line will come with an appearance upgrade kit that makes the car look a bit more muscular and planted than the regular Elantra. This particular detail will be noticeable for the people who pay close attention to cars.
There are no specifications or numbers released by Hyundai yet, but based on the competitors it's up against, consumers can expect a turbocharged engine and power specs to meet the 220-hp range.
For the American market, production will start this fall in the Hyundai Alabama production plant. Hyundai expects the car will be ready to buy in early 2021, though with plants still shutdown, work may be delayed until the current crisis passes.
More importantly, this may be the kickstart to a whole new sportier range of powerful vehicles like the R-Line of Volkswagen or the RS-Line of the European car manufacturer Renault.
