Both sharp-looking and fun to drive, the midsize 2022 Chevrolet Blazer and compact 2022 Chevrolet Equinox each have good standard features and powerful engines. Let’s compare them.

Above Average: Sharp looks; strong optional V6; good handling for an SUV.
Below Average: Tight rear seat; lacks some active safety features as standard; no real off-road ability.
Consensus: With looks reminiscent of the Camaro, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer has a sporty vibe and a choice of engines. Rear seat space is a bit tight, as is cargo, and despite optional all-wheel drive, it’s no off-roader.
2022 Chevrolet Equinox

Starting Price: $25,800 | Price yours or View listings near you
Above Average: Standard safety features; roomy rear seat; optional all-wheel drive.
Below Average: Cargo space vs. rivals; single engine/transmission choice; sporty RS doesn’t mean more power.
Consensus: Chevy’s best-selling SUV, the 2022 Equinox offers good space for passengers, comfortable driving manners, and ample standard safety features. Maximum cargo space is a bit small compared to some competitors, and there’s only one engine option.
Blazer vs. Equinox: Sharp Looks and Fun Driving
Chevrolet Blazer
Muscular and handsome, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer has a distinctly sporty look, backed up by a choice of engines and impressive handling for a midsize SUV. With Chevy having dropped the previous base engine for 2022, the choices are now a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder or a 308-hp 3.6-liter V6. A 9-speed automatic transmission sends power to either the front wheels or all four. Most people will likely be satisfied with the base engine, but the V6 goes well with the sporty vibe. Handling is sharp and the brakes are confident.
We like the chiseled looks of the Blazer, and the interior has a straightforward, sporty feel to it as well, with a standard 8-inch touchscreen controlling infotainment. Rear-seat space is a bit tight for adults, and with all seats folded, there are 64.2 cubic feet of cargo space — roomy enough, but not the best out there. With the proper package, the Blazer can tow up to 4,500 pounds.
Base features include the 8-inch screen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alex, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Also included are dual-zone climate control and the Chevy Safety Assist package, with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist with lane-departure warning, and forward-collision alert, among other safety aids.
Past the base trim, there is the RS, with a more sporty vibe, the V6 engine, a more sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, and some interesting wheel options and accents. More toward the luxury end is the Premier, with perforated leather-appointed seating. These trims are also eligible for a Bose 8-speaker premium audio system and come standard with navigation.
Chevrolet Equinox
Despite the 2-row compact crossover segment being among the most competitive, the 2022 Equinox has been a good seller for Chevrolet due to its low price, good standard features, and comfortable driving manners.
A 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine sends power to either the front or all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic. Its 170 horsepower may not seem like much, but it’s enough to keep the compact moving. The Equinox is rated to tow up to 1,500 pounds.
With an update for 2022, the exterior has a wider and more aggressive grille and a more rugged rear look as well. Higher trims get such features as bigger wheels and a gloss black grille.
Inside, the seats are comfortable and supportive, and there is a center-mounted touchscreen for infotainment. We also like that there are buttons and knobs for climate and audio controls. There’s good legroom in the rear, and the bench reclines. Cargo space is a fair 63.9 cubic feet with all seats folded, although that’s less than some of its competitors.
Standard features are pretty basic and include cloth seats, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, four USB ports, and OnStar. Safety features include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Upper trims get such things as leather seats, adaptive cruise control, more safety features, plus a premium audio system.
Similarities
Five-passenger seating; optional all-wheel drive; warranty; 5-Star safety rating; cargo space.
2022 Chevrolet Blazer Advantages
Base power; optional V6 upgrade engine.
2022 Chevrolet Equinox Advantages
Lower price; fuel economy; roomy rear seat.
Which One is Right for Me?
To start right off, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer and 2022 Chevrolet Equinox are in different categories, with the Blazer a midsize and the Equinox a compact.
If you like a bit more of a sporty feel and stylish vibe, the 2022 Chevy Blazer is a fun SUV, with a choice of engines including a powerful V6, and all-wheel drive. Depending on how you option it, you can choose to be more sporty or more luxurious.
Still enjoyable to drive, the 2022 Chevy Equinox is a pleasant compact SUV. Despite being smaller than the Blazer, it has useful cargo space and a roomy interior, and its under-$30,000 starting price only adds to its appeal.
