Toyota unveiled the Hilux Revo GR Sport in Thailand, where it is available in high-riding and low-riding versions with sporty elements inside-out bearing the Gazoo Racing emblem.
This is not the first time we see a Hilux GR Sport, as the model appeared in 2018 ago in the form of a limited edition for Brazil, however this time the variant is different, being based on the facelifted Hilux which comes fitted with the more powerful turbodiesel engine.
The current eighth-generation Hilux was unveiled in 2015 and received two facelifts in 2017 and in 2020. The latest update brought a new version of the 2.8-liter turbodiesel producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 368 lb-ft (500 Nm) when combined with the six-speed automatic transmission.
This is the motor used by both variants of the Revo GR Sport. The difference between them lies in the suspension, the bodykits, the equipment, and more importantly the fact that the low-riding model is RWD while the high-riding is AWD with differential lock.

Speaking of suspension, the Hilux Revo GR Sport comes with the reinforced SuperFlex Suspension (double wishbones with coil springs and stabilizer bar at the front and 5 sheets of leaf springs at the back) featuring Monotube Shock Absorbers. The low-rider on the other hand has a less sophisticated setup but it sits 23 mm (0.9 inches) closer to the ground, which makes it more capable in terms of handling and less focused on off-roading. Both models have disc brakes with red brake calipers at the front and drums on the rear axle.
The low-rider is fitted with a sporty bodykit that includes aerodynamic extensions on the front bumper, side skirts, and a diffuser at the back. It also comes with a body-colored grille surround, a glossy black finish on the faux intakes, and a set of decals to complete the sporty looks.
Besides the lowered suspension, the pickup sits on black-painted 17-inch wheels shod in tarmac-oriented tires. The wheels look rather small on the Hilux and could probably use some spacers in order to align with the muscular fenders. There are only three exterior colors to choose from – white, red and black.
On the other hand, the regular Hilux Revo GR Sport looks quite rugged thanks to the considerably higher ground clearance and the larger 18-inch wheels combined with the reinforced suspension and AWD system.
Naturally, this one has a different bodykit. At the front, there is a larger grille with Toyota lettering and the GR emblem, while the new bumper has integrated fog lights and underbody protection. On the profile, we find wheel arch extensions and side steps for easier access to the cabin. It also comes with mudguards, a sports bar on the rear bed, and colored stickers on the side doors and tailgate.

Inside, we find black suede/faux leather upholstery with red stitching while the GR-branded sport seats with integrated headrests provide more support in the high-riding model. Other sporty elements include the aluminum pedals, the red mark on the steering wheel, and the GR emblem on the instrument cluster and on the start-stop button.
Similar to the higher trim levels of the regular Hilux, the GR Sport comes equipped with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. In terms of safety, the high-riding version is better equipped with 7 airbags instead of 3, plus an array of ADAS systems included in the Toyota Safety Sense suite.

The Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport is already available in Thailand with prices starting from 889,000 baht ($27,157) for the low-rider and 1,299,000 baht ($39,682) for the regular version. At this point, it is not clear if the GR Sport variants of the Hilux will be offered elsewhere, although the high-riding model could make for a likely candidate.
Mind you, the Hilux GR Sport has nothing to do with the rumored GR Hilux which will be significantly more powerful and capable off-road as the true flagship of the range.
