From chic to sporty, cool sunglasses are made in the shades - Boston Herald

Quick: When’s the last time you lost a pair of sunglasses? I still can’t find one of my favorites. In fact, it’s gotten to be that time in late summer where I just need to admit that I need a new pair and go buy them.

All that said, as one savvy/sassy friend pointed out, losing your shades isn’t just for summer. Most of us have the great fortune of doing that all year long, right?

So with that in mind, it’s time for me to go forth and find my next beloved pair of shades, so I can then lose them this coming fall, or winter, or spring, or — maybe if I’m phenomenally lucky — sometime next summer.

And at that point, the only problem is selecting from all of the gorgeous designs out there right now. Here are some great style options.

Je Ne Sais Quoi Personified: A little tortoiseshell action here, a little Old Hollywood glam there. That’s what’s delivered in the Penelope Sunglasses ($160 on sezane.com), by the unapologetically hip new line out of France, Sezane. Slide them on, and the world’s your chic li’l oyster.

The Italian Style Maven: Got your headscarf and shift dress at the ready? Great. But you’re going to need a pair of these babies, too. TOL’s Disc-Orangine ($320 on gretta.co) is a number I sell in my boutique, since I love it for its ultra-cool, retro round-shape disc frame. They’re handmade in Italy, and sport high-quality dark tinted Carl Zeiss lenses. Che figata!

The Aviator Maverick: The OG design by RayBan — the Aviator Classic ($161 on ray-ban.com) has skyrocketed in sales since Joe Biden announced his candidacy in 2019. But the truth is, this style has been a go-to for decades. And why not? Everyone from Elvis Presley to George Michael to Tom Cruise has donned them — and always looked better for it.

The Seventies Diva: I love big, round, take-up-a-third-of-your-face sunglasses, just like our moms and grandmoms all used to wear back in the groovy days of yore. Enter the Darlen ($410 on oliverpeoples.com), a gold-rimmed design with olive gradient lenses that will have you singing Marvin Gaye throughout your day.

Geek Chic: Devo’s got nuthin’ on these Prive Revaux red-mirrored shades ($39.95 on amazon.com). No need to worry about whatever else you throw on to create your entire look, since these will steal the show, guaranteed.

Queen of the Pool: Oh, to be this truly mod all the time. The H/H Black White/Grey Flat Gradient cat-eye by Pamela Sunglasses ($220 on illesteva.com) is black on top, white on the bottom, and completely cool.
