While SUVs dominate car sales, midsize sedans are still a viable option given their spacious seating, excellent fuel economy and value. They can also offer sportier performance than comparable priced SUVs.
A few automakers have recently introduced new performance-tuned sedans with engine upgrades and more responsive handling to make driving more enjoyable. Edmonds experts have selected five favorite models for less than $ 35,000. Vehicles are sorted by the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, such as destination and fees.
2021 Mazda 6
The Mazda6 does not have its own sports trim level. Rather, it has a sporty attitude at almost every trim level. The responsive steering and stable handling make driving the turn fun. And even when stopped, the 6 is attractive and sleek. The upper trim level can easily be compared to entry-level luxury sedans in terms of interior quality.
Get the most out of your Mazda 6 with the optional turbocharged engine. This turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine produces 227 horsepower on regular gas and 250 horsepower on 93 octane gas. This is up to 63 horsepower more than the 6 base engine. A paddle shifter is also attached to the steering wheel to add a sporty feel. This year is the final year of Mazda6, so get it now.

2021 KIA K5 GT
The Kia K5 offers an attractive combination of comfort, value and driving pleasure. The K5’s luxury cabins are equipped with many standard features such as useful technology features and driver aids. We are big fans of the quiet and smooth K5 highway ride quality.
K5 has many similarities because it is mechanically related to sonatas. The top K5 GT is like the Sonata N line, which also has a 290 horsepower turbocharged engine. Compared to the regular version of the K5, the GT comes with sports-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, upgraded front seats and styling enhancements. The handling of the K5 GT isn’t as dial-in and fun as the Sonata N-line handling, but otherwise it’s a satisfying sedan to drive.

2021 Honda Accord Sport 2.0T
The Accord has long been a solid choice for sporty sedans, and it also applies to the latest generation of the Accord. The Sport 2.0T is the sportiest version of the Accord’s wide range of trim levels. Equipped with Accord’s optional turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, it produces 252 horsepower, which is 60 horsepower more than the standard engine.
Even with standard non-sporty trims, the Accord is a pleasure to drive. It is smooth and comfortable on the highway with impressive steering and handling. The Sport 2.0T looks just like any other peer. This can be turned off if you want to show some of it to a sports sedan as well. But if not, you’re getting a luxury medium-sized sedan that’s easy to drive every day.

2021 Toyota Camry TRD
One of the most popular sedans on the road, the Toyota Camry naturally appeals to a wide range of buyers. There are several trim levels to choose from. Mid-level SE and XSE trim add sporty suspension and some sporty look. However, the sportiest trim in the Camry lineup is the TRD.
The Camry TRD is equipped with the Camry 301 horsepower V6 engine as standard equipment. It also features upgraded suspension, special wheels and tires, unique upholstery, sports exhaust and aerodynamic body trim. This trim level allows for a unique experience in an otherwise common car.

2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line
With an easy-to-use infotainment interface, unique styling and spacious interior, the 2021 Hyundai Sonata is perfect for sedans of all trim levels. It also comes with many standard features, including advanced driver aids, and may be reserved for competitors’ option seats.
At the top of the Sonata lineup is the N line. It uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and delivers 290 horsepower. That’s more than the 99 horsepower offered by Sonata’s standard 2.5-liter engine. The N-line also features a faster-shifting automatic transmission, sports-tuned suspension and steering, a front seat with additional bolstering, and unique exterior styling. It’s great for sporty sedans, but it offers the same ride quality as any other car here.
