Kate Middleton: How her sporty upbringing is inspiring her own parenting - Express

The Duchess of Cambridge grew up in Bucklebury village in Berkshire, playing competitive sports with her siblings Pippa and James. Pippa and James Middleton have both competed in major bike races for charity, including the Race Across America in 2014 and the London to Brighton Bike Ride in 2015 for the British Heart Foundation.

Kate famously raced against her husband Prince William in the inaugural King's Cup yachting regatta in the Isle of Wight in 2019, however she lost the race to her husband.

Carole and Michael Middleton both encouraged their children to engage with sports, due to their love of sports as well.

Pippa is now the new ambassador for Hoka One, and she revealed how fitness was a huge component of her and her sibling’s upbringing.

She said: "One day, my dream would be to participate in a sporting challenge or epic adventure with my own children like I was lucky enough to experience as a child.

"My parents inspired my love for walking in the mountains and both joined me and my brother to the first hut when we climbed Mont Blanc.

“My father summited it with my sister a few years before.

"It would give me great comfort for my children to find the joy, rewards and experience the journeys I have enjoyed through running, sport and fitness."

Here, Pippa is referencing the time Kate and Michael Middleton climbed Mont Blanc just before the Royal Wedding in April 2011.

DON'T MISS:

It was a father-daughter bonding activity before Kate would officially join the Royal Family.

The Mont Blanc summit is known as the 'roof of Europe', and the Duchess of Cambridge would need to be extremely fit to be able to complete this mountain climb.

It is the highest mountain in the Alps and Western Europe, rising 4,808.7m above sea level.

The hike to the summit takes around three to seven days to complete depending on the route and accommodation.

It can cost upwards of £2,099 per person and is usually completed in the summer months.

It certainly is a massive accomplishment for the father-daughter duo and one which apparently the entire Middleton family like to take part in every couple of years.

Michael, Carole, Pippa and her son Arthur, climbed to the first hut of the mountain again in 2018, showing that sport definitely runs in this family's blood.

The Duchess of Cambridge is also a keen skier, and her romance with William was even confirmed in the Swiss ski resort of Klosters in 2004 when official photos were released.

In 2016, Kate took over from the Queen as the royal patron of the Lawn Tennis Association and has been pictured playing around with kids at the National Tennis Centre.

At school, she was on the tennis team, as well as the hockey team and undoubtedly encourages her children to be sporty too.

In 2016, the Cambridges took their eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, on their first skiing holiday to Courchevel in the French Alps.

Clearly, both Kate and Pippa Middleton will encourage their children to participate in sporting activities together as a family, just like their childhood.

Prince George attended the Euro 2020 final where he seemed to be absolutely loving the football with his parents in the Royal Box.
