The 2020 NFL Draft is here, and the sporty pups of Twitter and Instagram were sure to celebrate the future of football.
The 2020 NFL Draft began Thursday night, April 23, live from the living rooms and basements of homes across America due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This has left most NFL general managers and head coaches making an educated guess as to who best to choose to guarantee their franchise’s future success, based on less-than-ideal levels of information. So it’s a similar situation as when the Dog O’Day staff tries to predict major dog show results.
As expected, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, remains a Tiger of a different color as he was selected No. 1 overall by the Cincinnati Bengals, replacing longtime veteran Andy Dalton.
Our friend Holland the Pup doesn’t have a Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey yet, but she’s looking forward to cheering on the new QB/tight end combo of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski when the season finally begins (if it’s possible to play it safely).
She made sure to be wearing her pirate collar, though (apparently there’s an annual pirate festival in Tampa each spring).
In minor league baseball, the Frisco RoughRiders’ Chief Morale Officer Brooks the Golden Retriever mix was ready to help out on the football field if anyone needed receiving help.
But everyone’s favorite hockey-loving Jack Russell Terrier, Bark-Andre Furry, really won the night, spending the NFL Draft hanging out with members of the Las Vegas Raiderettes cheer squad. (Little brother Deke wasn’t invited, apparently; he was busy planting shrubbery for Earth Day.)
Bark’s pal Stoney, a Baltimore Poodle mix, made sure to wear his favorite Ravens jersey, and he enjoyed critiquing the furniture and architecture of the various rooms shown.
Overall, while the NFL Draft is not quite as dramatic as, say, the 2020 Puppy Bowl, or as entertaining as some of the Super Bowl 54 commercials were, it’s still a type of new sports content, and that means a bit of normalcy to the world of pop culture, even if it’s just for a second.
